It’s been 230 days since we returned from our trip. I had hoped to update more about our journeys, but you know, life gets in the way. It’s been an adventurous 230 days at that. We stayed in Michigan for a month and a half before heading out, across our frozen country to Sacramento, CA. During our drive, we hit our 34th US State visited together – Utah. In Utah we checked out the Midway Ice Castles & the Salt Flats.
We spent 3 months in Sacramento and had plenty of fun exploring the city, Monterey (our old stomping grounds – Jen’s first travel contract), the Napa Valley, Calistoga, Santa Rosa, and San Francisco. We even made our marriage legal to the government in the middle of a redwood tree in John Muir Woods. I’d say that Cali treated us well.
(pictured above – Point Lobos State Reserve – my first taste of Pliny The Younger – our legal marriage in the middle of a redwood.)
As soon as we had arrived we had to leave as Jen’s contract in Sactown was up. Our next adventure was to be New York City. I had lived in the Big Apple previously and was dying to get back. We packed numerous suitcases and boarded a plane for NYC. For Jen, this was her first big metropolitan city where she would have to rely solely on public transportation. I’m pretty sure she’s still getting used to it. It is a big change. You can’t just drive to the store and get all of your groceries. You have to carry them. Maybe this is keeping our expenses down and letting us waste less.
Having been back 230 days I cannot deny that my mind wanders. And that I have continuous urges to just pack up and hit the road again soon. There have been numerous times recently in which I’ve just said to Jen,”Let’s just move to Asia.” I’m sure much more travel will be coming in our future, but for now we’re in the US.
