Don’t worry friends! We’ve found it! And I can’t stress how amazing of a feat that was. We always consult Tripadvisor when visiting a new city. Just to see what restaurants are around us and what is good if we happen to wander across it. Upon searching for restaurants in Vientiane, Laos, we found that the #1 restaurant happens to be a burger place. Really? A burger place? Here’s the listing: Ray’s Grille.
With that, we decided to give it a whirl. We headed out at about 4:30pm from our hotel. There was no exact address. Or, the one that was given was incorrect. We wandered around back streets and small alleys in a neighborhood where everyone just stared at us. Arguing about where we were ensued. After we had given up, we were walking down one of the main streets (Rue Setthathilath to be exact) and we see the sign “Ray’s Grille” (and by sign I mean it was written on a dry erase board).
To our luck, it was closed. And wouldn’t be opening until 6pm. Now I don’t know how many of you know this, but Jen gets very hangry. Hungry + Angry= Hangry. So we decided not to wait until 6 and to just find something else.
The next day we returned to Ray’s Grille for our Farewell Laos meal because we had a flight to Hanoi, Vietnam in a few hours. We were the first customers of the day. And we were ready for our cheeseburgers!
They were delicious. Burger, avocado, bacon, tomato, lettuce, onion and some kind of fancy sauce (ketchup + mayo for those of you who haven’t seen Step Brothers).
The meal comes with fries, more tomato, lettuce and a side of fancy sauce. Easily one of the best cheeseburgers of my life. Perfect seasoning. Perfect juiciness. If you happen to find yourself in Vientiane, you must stop by. Well worth the long search.
The total meal for two cheeseburger meals, 2 beers, 1 Coke Light = 120,000 Kip =$15 USD. And here is a picture of Ray, grilling up some bacon for more cheeseburgers.
Where did we stay in Vientiane?
Inter City Boutique Hotel – Again, amazing location. Right on the riverfront. Nice breakfast and lobby space. Best of all? Close to Ray’s Grille!
